The Simple Chakra Healing Practice That Broke My Anxiety Spiral

I’m writing this from a hiking spot I’ve avoided for the last 3 years. Here I am today, out on a walk, feeling calm and grounded. If you’ve been following my recovery journey from severe panic attacks, you know how big this is.

Today, something shifted. I caught anxiety rising before it spiraled, and I want to share the simple chakra healing practice that worked.

When I Felt the Familiar Shift

I was walking, enjoying the beautiful lake and feeling lighthearted, when my energy suddenly changed. My vision narrowed. My mind started racing down that familiar path toward panic.

But here’s the thing – I wasn’t in full-blown panic yet. This practice works best when you catch those first warning signs in your body.

The Physical Check-In That Changed Everything

I stopped walking and asked myself: “Where in my body am I feeling this?”

For me, it was my throat and neck. So I gently placed my hand there and paused.

I took a deep breath in and out. Then I did something that might sound strange but hear me out.

Talking to the Anxious Part of Me

Drawing from Internal Family Systems, I recognized this tension as a younger part of myself sensing danger. This part was doing its job perfectly – trying to protect me.

Instead of fighting it, I accepted it.

With my hand still on my throat, I took another deep breath and said to myself: “I hear you. I see you. I’m with you. We’re safe now.”

These simple chakra affirmations helped calm my nervous system immediately. I felt the tension physically dissolve. My amygdala calmed down and my prefrontal cortex – the thinking part of my brain – came back online.

The Chakra Healing Scan That Sealed the Deal

This reminded me to try a chakra healing practice, since I noticed the tension was in one of those centers. Whether you believe in chakras or not, I find these energy centers helpful for checking in with different aspects of ourselves.

As I continued walking, I did a quick scan of all seven chakras. For each one, I asked: “How does this feel right now?” and “How can I feel even one percent better here?”

The whole thing took maybe two minutes. And it was actually kind of fun.

Your Quick Guide to the Seven Chakras

Don’t worry if you’re new to this – here’s what each energy center represents:

Root Chakra (Base of Spine)

❤️ What it governs: Safety, security, grounding, basic survival needs

❤️ When balanced: You feel stable, secure, and connected to the earth

❤️ Quick check-in: “Do I feel grounded or on high alert right now?”

Sacral Chakra (Below Navel)

🧡 What it governs: Creativity, sexuality, emotions, pleasure

🧡 When balanced: You feel creative, passionate, and emotionally fluid

🧡 Quick check-in: “Am I allowing myself to feel and create freely?”

Solar Plexus Chakra (Upper Abdomen)

💙 When balanced: You speak your truth clearly and authentically

💙 Quick check-in: “Am I expressing myself honestly?”

Third Eye Chakra (Between Eyebrows)

💜 What it governs: Intuition, insight, spiritual awareness

💜 When balanced: You trust your inner wisdom and see clearly

💜 Quick check-in: “Am I trusting my intuition or second-guessing myself?”

Crown Chakra (Top of Head)

🤍 What it governs: Spiritual connection, higher consciousness, purpose

🤍 When balanced: You feel connected to something greater than yourself

🤍 Quick check-in: “Do I feel connected to my purpose and the bigger picture?”

How to Do Your Own 2-Minute Check-In

You can do this anywhere – at home, on a walk, even in a meeting. Here’s the simple process:

Step 1: Notice physical sensations of rising anxiety or stress

Step 2: Place your hand where you feel tension

Step 3: Take a deep breath and acknowledge that part of yourself: “I hear you, I see you, I’m with you”

Step 4: Quickly scan each chakra, asking how it feels and how you can feel 1% better

Step 5: Take another deep breath and continue with your day

Why This Works When You’re Spiraling

This chakra healing practice pulls you out of your overthinking mind and back into your body. It gives your nervous system permission to calm down.

The 1% improvement question is key. We’re not asking for miracles – just tiny shifts that feel manageable.

And honestly? Sometimes just the act of checking in with yourself through chakra healing is enough to interrupt the anxiety spiral.

You Don’t Have to Fight Every Battle

Recovery isn’t about never feeling anxious again. It’s about catching it early and having tools that actually work, that you can count on.

If it wasn’t for learning how to actually calm my nervous system in the moment, I would still be avoiding this place. I’d still be letting anxiety dictate where I could and couldn’t go. This free guide is a good place to start if that sounds familiar.

Today I’m walking in a place I used to avoid, feeling proud of how far I’ve come. And you can get here too – one small check-in at a time.
